Porsche 944 Keyless Entry SystemUpdated 10-15-99
After spending two weekends installing left and right side Power Door Lock actuators, I was ready to complete the installation with a keyless entry system. I ended up purchasing a "Crimestopper" CS835 RKE (remote keyless entry) system from the same place I got the power door locks. It was $50. Shipping was even more of a "rip-off" this time! $13.80 to send a 2 pound package about 50 miles. The ruler above is six inches long. The remotes (two are include) are not too large either: 2" x 1.5" by about one-half inch thick. Installation was simple. The unit has a feature where a relay will be triggered when you hold down the door-lock button on the remote for more then 1 second. I connected the two wires from the relay output to the brown and purple wires that make the power door locks lock and unlock. Range with the tiny four-button remote is impressive! Three car-lengths away? No problem! Hold down the button, and chunk, up pop the locks. It also has an output for a blinking LED. I bought an extra blank-switch-cover piece for the 944 console, drilled a hole in it, and installed a T1 size LED. The RKE remote has four buttons. One is a useless panic button (to honk the horn), but there is a button for trunk release. Once I find out how to access the trunk release switch wires, I will get that feature working. Here are the instructions for installation of the RKE. 6-6-2010 Update I finally hooked up remote trunk opening. The trunk switch bezel snaps into the opening near the footwell. To remove, just pull it out. The switch snaps into the bezel The red wire is +12V, the white wire is ground, and the blue wire goes to the trunk release motor. The pushbutton is a SPDT switch. When you press it, the blue and red get connected together. When you release, the blue and white get connected together.
I unsoldered the connector from the switch and hooked it up to my little relay board, which contains a SPDT relay, a diode for the relay coil (and a wire to connect to the remote control box. The red/black wire pair is just an auxiliary that I might use someday. Of course I'd have to cut open the shrink tubing to get to it.
