The Porsche 944 Front Spoiler

7-12-2002

Removing it

Tools needed:

  • 19mm socket (to remove bumper)
  • 8mm, 10mm sockets
  • 10mm wrench

How it's held on

On each side there is:

  • (1) 10mm head sheet-metal screw at the bottom of the fender
  • (3) 8mm screws across the side, right above the parking light.
  • (4) 10mm bolts near the foglight
  • (2) 10mm bolts on the underneath.

There is also that hanger thing right in the middle.

Removing the bumper makes things so much easier (two 19mm bolts). You also have to remove the parking lights (two plastic nuts).

Spoiler Repair

It seems there is a special epoxy designed for flexible parts repair:

"3M Automix™ EZ Sand Flexible Parts Repair" 3M05895

3M recommends the use of "Adhesive promoter" 3M05907

12/2007 Update

I've been told the spoiler is a (thermoset) polyurethane. I'm not sure if the 3M product mentioned above is appropriate for the Porsche spoiler.

Plastic repair PDF

From the PDF: "Reinforced reaction injection molded (RRIM) polyurethane...is made to be stiff yet flexible. It can absorb minor impacts without damage. This makes RRIM an ideal material for exposed areas."

I think the correct repair Epoxy is 3M Duramix.
