Porsche 944 Heater Control Valve4-9-2005 Tools needed:
The heater control valve is a vacuum-operated valve that controls coolant flow to the internal heat exchanger. If it breaks, all your coolant comes out. That's bad enough, but its location (in the back of the engine right above the clutch) means it will dump coolant all over your clutch.
You can easily bypass it for a temporary fix. Disconnect the output hose from the valve and plug it into the fitting coming out of the block. A replacement is only $20 or so. Mine lasted 19 years before the input fitting broke off. Might be a good item to keep an eye on. If you lose vacuum to it, the heater valve opens up. Vacuum keeps it closed. |
